Blondie honored by Centenary College

HACKETTSTOWN — Deborah Harry — “Blondie” to the world of punk rock — was among six people to be named Distinguished Alumnae by Centenary College .
Harry, Class of 1965, is a singer, songwriter, actress and the lead singer of the punk rock band “Blondie.”

In 2006, Blondie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Harry is set to embark on the “Necessary Evil Tour” kicking off in New York at the Fillmore at Irving Plaza on Nov. 8.

Harry is promoting her sixth solo album titled “Necessary Evil” and her upcoming film, “Elegy,” starring Ben Kingsley and Penelope Cruz, is expected to be released sometime in 2007. It is based on the Phillip Roth novel, “The Dying Animal.”

The Centenary honors were announced Oct. 14 during Homecoming and Alumni Weekend festivities.
