Exclusive: Blondie to release brand new album

By Jody Thompson, Mirror.co.uk 7/07/2008

Legendary band Blondie have got a new record on the way, Mirror.co.uk can reveal.

Speaking around their appearance at the weekend’s Guilfest as part of their world tour, drummer Clem Burke said: “We’re going to try and make another record in the next year.

The band, featuring their iconic lead singer Deborah Harry, are currently celebrating the 30th anniversary of the release of their seminal album Parallel Lines, which Clem said had inspired them to get back into the studio.

It will be their first new material since the release of The Curse Of Blondie in 2003.

Of the current tour meanwhile, Clem said: “It’s been great. We’re enjoying it as much as we ever did. It’s fun, especially this time of year, it’s almost like being on holiday. The audiences especially here in the UK are uplifting.”

Other bands on the bill at the bash in Guildford included reformed indie heroes Dodgy, Seth Lakeman, The American Pink Floyd, British Sea Power, Fightstar and Kula Shaker.

Blondie meanwhile are playing the mainland European leg of their world tour before returning to the UK on July 20 to play Latitude Festival.
