THE CURSE OF BLONDIE
The album title is less ironic than it seems...
Four years in the making (lost tapes, trouble getting a US record deal), Blondie are now indestructible. The Curse Of Blondie rattles along at a gloriously youthful pace. While distinctly new wave bent, they rarely seem marooned in the past. Debbie Harry (58, bless her) still manages to sound like a starlet, but the real meat is in the startling opener Shakedown, oddly reminiscent of Adam and The Ants' Prince Charming; the genuinely inspired, silken single Good Boys and the faintly unhinged Desire Brings Me Back. A little class and dignity never goes amiss, and Blondie have both to spare.
